CVE-2023-52504
HIGH7.1

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/alternatives: Disable KASAN in apply_alternatives() Fei has reported that KASAN triggers during apply_alternatives() on a 5-level paging machine: BUG: KASAN: out-of-bounds in rcu_is_watching() Read of size 4 at addr ff110003ee6419a0 by task swapper/0/0 ... __asan_load4() rcu_is_watching() trace_hardirqs_on() text_poke_early() apply_alternatives() ... On machines with 5-level paging, cpu_feature_enabled(X86_FEATURE_LA57) gets patched. It includes KASAN code, where KASAN_SHADOW_START depends on __VIRTUAL_MASK_SHIFT, which is defined with cpu_feature_enabled(). KASAN gets confused when apply_alternatives() patches the KASAN_SHADOW_START users. A test patch that makes KASAN_SHADOW_START static, by replacing __VIRTUAL_MASK_SHIFT with 56, works around the issue. Fix it for real by disabling KASAN while the kernel is patching alternatives. CVE-2024-26688
MEDIUM5.5

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs,hugetlb: fix NULL pointer dereference in hugetlbs_fill_super When configuring a hugetlb filesystem via the fsconfig() syscall, there is a possible NULL dereference in hugetlbfs_fill_super() caused by assigning NULL to ctx->hstate in hugetlbfs_parse_param() when the requested pagesize is non valid. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: l2tp: pass correct message length to ip6_append_data l2tp_ip6_sendmsg needs to avoid accounting for the transport header twice when splicing more data into an already partially-occupied skbuff. To manage this, we check whether the skbuff contains data using skb_queue_empty when deciding how much data to append using ip6_append_data. However, the code which performed the calculation was incorrect: ulen = len + skb_queue_empty(&sk->sk_write_queue) ? transhdrlen : 0; ...due to C operator precedence, this ends up setting ulen to transhdrlen for messages with a non-zero length, which results in corrupted packets on the wire. Add parentheses to correct the calculation in line with the original intent.

This results in a panic when the send completion runs. The exact panic varies depending on what elements of the container structure get corrupted. The fix is to use the correct expression in _pad_sdma_tx_descs() to test the need to expand the descriptor array. With this patch the crashes are no longer reproducible and the machine is stable.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fbdev: savage: Error out if pixclock equals zero The userspace program could pass any values to the driver through ioctl() interface. If the driver doesn't check the value of pixclock, it may cause divide-by-zero error. Although pixclock is checked in savagefb_decode_var(), but it is not checked properly in savagefb_probe(). Fix this by checking whether pixclock is zero in the function savagefb_check_var() before info->var.pixclock is used as the divisor. This is similar to CVE-2022-3061 in i740fb which was fixed by commit 15cf0b8.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: fix race condition on enabling fast-xmit fast-xmit must only be enabled after the sta has been uploaded to the driver, otherwise it could end up passing the not-yet-uploaded sta via drv_tx calls to the driver, leading to potential crashes because of uninitialized drv_priv data. Add a missing sta->uploaded check and re-check fast xmit after inserting a sta.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: dev-replace: properly validate device names There's a syzbot report that device name buffers passed to device replace are not properly checked for string termination which could lead to a read out of bounds in getname_kernel(). Add a helper that validates both source and target device name buffers. For devid as the source initialize the buffer to empty string in case something tries to read it later. This was originally analyzed and fixed in a different way by Edward Adam Davis (see links).

The splat occurs because skb->data points past skb->head allocated area. This is because neigh layer does: __skb_pull(skb, skb_network_offset(skb)); ... but skb_network_offset() returns a negative offset and __skb_pull() arg is unsigned. IOW, we skb->data gets "adjusted" by a huge value. The negative value is returned because skb->head and skb->data distance is more than 64k and skb->network_header (u16) has wrapped around. The bug is in the ip_tunnel infrastructure, which can cause dev->needed_headroom to increment ad infinitum. The syzkaller reproducer consists of packets getting routed via a gre tunnel, and route of gre encapsulated packets pointing at another (ipip) tunnel. The ipip encapsulation finds gre0 as next output device. This results in the following pattern: 1). First packet is to be sent out via gre0. Route lookup found an output device, ipip0. 2). ip_tunnel_xmit for gre0 bumps gre0->needed_headroom based on the future output device, rt.dev->needed_headroom (ipip0). 3). ip output / start_xmit moves skb on to ipip0. which runs the same code path again (xmit recursion). 4). Routing step for the post-gre0-encap packet finds gre0 as output device to use for ipip0 encapsulated packet. tunl0->needed_headroom is then incremented based on the (already bumped) gre0 device headroom. This repeats for every future packet: gre0->needed_headroom gets inflated because previous packets' ipip0 step incremented rt->dev (gre0) headroom, and ipip0 incremented because gre0 needed_headroom was increased. For each subsequent packet, gre/ipip0->needed_headroom grows until post-expand-head reallocations result in a skb->head/data distance of more than 64k. Once that happens, skb->network_header (u16) wraps around when pskb_expand_head tries to make sure that skb_network_offset() is unchanged after the headroom expansion/reallocation. After this skb_network_offset(skb) returns a different (and negative) result post headroom expansion. The next trip to neigh layer (or anything else that would __skb_pull the network header) makes skb->data point to a memory location outside skb->head area. v2: Cap the needed_headroom update to an arbitarily chosen upperlimit to prevent perpetual increase instead of dropping the headroom increment completely.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netlink: Fix kernel-infoleak-after-free in __skb_datagram_iter syzbot reported the following uninit-value access issue [1]: netlink_to_full_skb() creates a new `skb` and puts the `skb->data` passed as a 1st arg of netlink_to_full_skb() onto new `skb`. The data size is specified as `len` and passed to skb_put_data(). This `len` is based on `skb->end` that is not data offset but buffer offset. The `skb->end` contains data and tailroom. Since the tailroom is not initialized when the new `skb` created, KMSAN detects uninitialized memory area when copying the data. This patch resolved this issue by correct the len from `skb->end` to `skb->len`, which is the actual data offset. During memory pressure hook registration can fail and we end up with a table marked as active but no registered hooks. On table/base chain deletion, nf_tables will attempt to unregister the hook again which yields a warn splat from the nftables core.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: IB/hfi1: Fix a memleak in init_credit_return When dma_alloc_coherent fails to allocate dd->cr_base[i].va, init_credit_return should deallocate dd->cr_base and dd->cr_base[i] that allocated before. Or those resources would be never freed and a memleak is triggered.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: gadget: ncm: Avoid dropping datagrams of properly parsed NTBs It is observed sometimes when tethering is used over NCM with Windows 11 as host, at some instances, the gadget_giveback has one byte appended at the end of a proper NTB. When the NTB is parsed, unwrap call looks for any leftover bytes in SKB provided by u_ether and if there are any pending bytes, it treats them as a separate NTB and parses it. But in case the second NTB (as per unwrap call) is faulty/corrupt, all the datagrams that were parsed properly in the first NTB and saved in rx_list are dropped. Adding a few custom traces showed the following: [002] d..1 7828.532866: dwc3_gadget_giveback: ep1out: req 000000003868811a length 1025/16384 zsI ==> 0 [002] d..1 7828.532867: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: ncm_unwrap_ntb toprocess: 1025 [002] d..1 7828.532867: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: ncm_unwrap_ntb nth: 1751999342 [002] d..1 7828.532868: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: ncm_unwrap_ntb seq: 0xce67 [002] d..1 7828.532868: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: ncm_unwrap_ntb blk_len: 0x400 [002] d..1 7828.532868: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: ncm_unwrap_ntb ndp_len: 0x10 [002] d..1 7828.532869: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: Parsed NTB with 1 frames In this case, the giveback is of 1025 bytes and block length is 1024. The rest 1 byte (which is 0x00) won't be parsed resulting in drop of all datagrams in rx_list. Same is case with packets of size 2048: [002] d..1 7828.557948: dwc3_gadget_giveback: ep1out: req 0000000011dfd96e length 2049/16384 zsI ==> 0 [002] d..1 7828.557949: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: ncm_unwrap_ntb nth: 1751999342 [002] d..1 7828.557950: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: ncm_unwrap_ntb blk_len: 0x800 Lecroy shows one byte coming in extra confirming that the byte is coming in from PC: Transfer 2959 - Bytes Transferred(1025) Timestamp((18.524 843 590) - Transaction 8391 - Data(1025 bytes) Timestamp(18.524 843 590) --- Packet 4063861 Data(1024 bytes) Duration(2.117us) Idle(14.700ns) Timestamp(18.524 843 590) --- Packet 4063863 Data(1 byte) Duration(66.160ns) Time(282.000ns) Timestamp(18.524 845 722) According to Windows driver, no ZLP is needed if wBlockLength is non-zero, because the non-zero wBlockLength has already told the function side the size of transfer to be expected. However, there are in-market NCM devices that rely on ZLP as long as the wBlockLength is multiple of wMaxPacketSize. To deal with such devices, it pads an extra 0 at end so the transfer is no longer multiple of wMaxPacketSize.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rtnetlink: fix error logic of IFLA_BRIDGE_FLAGS writing back In the commit d73ef2d69c0d ("rtnetlink: let rtnl_bridge_setlink checks IFLA_BRIDGE_MODE length"), an adjustment was made to the old loop logic in the function `rtnl_bridge_setlink` to enable the loop to also check the length of the IFLA_BRIDGE_MODE attribute. However, this adjustment removed the `break` statement and led to an error logic of the flags writing back at the end of this function. if (have_flags) memcpy(nla_data(attr), &flags, sizeof(flags)); // attr should point to IFLA_BRIDGE_FLAGS NLA !!! Before the mentioned commit, the `attr` is granted to be IFLA_BRIDGE_FLAGS. However, this is not necessarily true fow now as the updated loop will let the attr point to the last NLA, even an invalid NLA which could cause overflow writes. This patch introduces a new variable `br_flag` to save the NLA pointer that points to IFLA_BRIDGE_FLAGS and uses it to resolve the mentioned error logic.
